Abstract
Bibliometrics Has Become An Important Research Approach For Examining The Growth, Structure, Visibility, And Development Of Scholarly Literature. In Library And Information Science (LIS), Bibliometric Techniques Are Increasingly Used To Study Publication Productivity, Citation Behaviour, Authorship Patterns, Institutional Collaboration, Journal Performance, And Emerging Research Areas. The Development Of Large Scholarly Databases And Analytical Software Has Further Expanded The Possibilities Of Bibliometric Research. This Review Examines The Concept And Evolution Of Bibliometrics, Major Methods And Laws, Commonly Used Indicators, Databases, And Software Applications. Particular Attention Is Given To Citation Analysis, Co-citation Analysis, Bibliographic Coupling, Co-authorship Analysis, Keyword Co-occurrence, Authorship Productivity, And Journal Productivity. The Review Also Discusses The Applications Of Bibliometrics In Collection Development, Research Evaluation, Journal Assessment, Scholarly Communication, And Institutional Performance Analysis. Contemporary Developments Such As Open-access Publishing, Altmetrics, Science Mapping, Artificial Intelligence, Big-data Analytics, And Research Collaboration Networks Are Considered. At The Same Time, Limitations Associated With Database Coverage, Disciplinary Differences, Citation Behaviour, Language Bias, And The Interpretation Of Quantitative Indicators Are Highlighted. The Review Concludes That Bibliometrics Can Provide Valuable Evidence For LIS Research And Library Decision-making When Quantitative Measures Are Interpreted Within Their Appropriate Scholarly And Institutional Context.
